ITIL History


ITIL was create din the 1980's by the UK governments CCTA (Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency) with the objective of ensuring better use of IT services and resources.

The outcome was what is now sometimes known as ITIL version one.

This grew rapidly in popularity, both in the UK and, slowly, across the world. However, as IT itself changed, so did ITIL. The CCTA, now known as OGC, eventually updated ITIL, and published version two.

It is now the most widely used IT service management best practice approach in the world.
